You do fight grotesque monstrosities in the original series. Like, I don't actually think the Necromorph-aliensĪre that off brand, albeit the tone looks much darker. They don't feel sufficient different from the Cultists or Trinity. And there's always a big supernatural thing to deal with as a plot element, but in moment-to-moment gameplay, not so much. Like yes in the lore there's a lot going for the Stormguard or the Byzantines as terrifying undead foes. Like, the most out-there foe in 2013 was. Rex before you are a quarter of the way through it and stuff gets wilder. One of my biggest gripes with the reboot is the lack of really "out-there" foes, when the first game has you fighting a T. I agree that maybe 2013 had toouch of this games DNA, to its detriment. It is a departure from what Tomb Raider was about. Personally, I really like what I've seen.
